Welcome to the Charles River Chorale website.
About the Chorale
The Charles River Chorale is based in Millis, Massachusetts. It is
a non-audition, all-volunteer group comprised of approximately 50
singers from Charles River area towns.
New members are welcome.
The group rehearses Tuesday evenings September through early December
and January through early May,
7:30-9:30 PM at the Church of Christ in Millis MA (142 Exchange St /
Route 115).
Led by Musical Director and Founder Roy S. Kelley and accompanied on
the piano by Donna Chaff, the Charles River Chorale presents
semi-annual concerts at Millis High
School. The Holiday Concert is held the second Saturday in December.
The Spring Concert is held the
first Saturday in May.
Performances
The group performs works in a variety of styles, from sacred music to
Broadway hits and beyond. Recent concerts have featured works by
Gershwin, Haydn, Vivaldi, Bach,
Joplin, Rutter and more.
The popular "sing-along" portion of the Holiday concert gives the
audience a chance to have fun singing with the group. Post-concert
refreshments and a Holiday silent
auction give the performers
and audience time to socialize.
The Chorale also sponsors scholarships for promising young musicians,
who are invited to perform at the Spring Concert.
The group performs at local events including the Town of Millis
Memorial Day services and Claflin Hill's Independence Day concert in
Milford.
Background
When it began in 1984, the group was a centennial celebration chorus.
It soon became the "Millis Community Chorale." The name was changed in
1999 to reflect the
increased diversity of its membership and audience. Members come from
more than 15 communities
to be part of the Chorale.
Funding for the Charles River Chorale comes from membership dues and
contributions; concert ticket sales; local businesses supporting us
through donations and program
advertising; raffle ticket sales;
and fundraising events.
The Charles River Chorale is not affiliated with any school, church or
religious sect. Rehearsal and performance spaces are rented from the
Church of Christ
and the Millis Public Schools.
